AIM TEXAS Design Group developed a concept for performative architectural concept design for a Sustainable Theatre and Exhibition Space in Greenpoint, which aimed at demonstrating the environmental operation of passive and active sun gain as well as ventilation systems, material and mechanical applications, and integrate into site by providing a publicly available function to the context.
The goal of the design was to create a highly performative space that accommodates multiple functions, while operating at as much reduced energy use as possible. To this end, a series of high-end systems were designed and integrated into a variety of passive gain strategies. From material use to wall and separator design.
The design has flexible use from theatre to exhibition space and incorporates a range of strategies to achieve a holistic design to accommodate for the public function. In this manner, the building and the surrounding context allows for the functions to shift over time with engagement styles; thus, achieving sustainability on intrinsic and use level.
